If you have never been to Charleston, I would highly recommend a visit. The area is steeped in artistic culture that is not fabricated or imported. The arts have shaped the city and the city has shaped the arts. There are many walking tours available with guides and without. I would recommend buying a good book on the city's architectural delights and places of interest. Then, take your own guided tour with your book in hand. Make sure you have your camera. If you happen to go when the Charleston Symphony is in season, buy tickets and go to one of their concerts. The churches in the area also provide venues for concerts. There is much to do. I would also encourage you before you visit to read as much about the history of this very interesting city. Your visit will come alive with the very places you read about plus you don't have to walk very far to visit each section of the city.
